Christmas Just Around the Corner

The Holiday season is upon us and how could we forget Festivus!  "Festivus for the Rest of Us!"  We are planning the Festivus meal which of course will include (1) the airing of grievances, (2) feats of strength, and (3) the Festivus Pole (remember, we find tinsel distracting).

This past week included a fishing trip with my new friend here Yoshi.  We walked about 30 minutes over to a place near where we lived and tried our luck.
Yoshi is a very accomplished fisherman and he showed how to fish this area.
The weather cooperated.  It was cold, but there was no wind and it was clear.  It really was a nice fall evening, where a jacket felt good.
We fished off the edge of an inlet from the Aki-nada Sea, where it meets the Kintai River.
The fish we caught were fairly small, with only two worth keeping, but all and all, it was an enjoyable evening.

This week was also the week for missionary transfers,  In our area we had two Sisters and one Elder leave.  The last transfers were only 4 weeks ago.  This was a short cycle due to the Christmas holiday season.  This one seemed to have more impact because we lost 3 more missionaries at once that we have worked with since we arrived in September.  We have truly come to know and love these special missionaries.

Sister McCuen       Sister McNaughton     Elder Malone.
Elder Malone went to Kagoshima, on the southern end of Kyushu Island as a Zone Leader.  Sister McNaughton has gone to the Kumamoto area where she will serve as a Sister Trainer Leader, and Sister McCuen has faithfully and honorably completed her service as a missionary and is headed back home to Boise, Idaho.  These three will be sorely missed by us, but I know that the new Sisters and Elder that have come in to take their places will grow to be just as special to us.

We continue to stay busy working with the other missionaries and also providing services to the American Red Cross, the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and the Thrift Store.

And just when you think that there should be some things in life that are obvious, you see a sign like this in a public restroom.
One last parting shot.  Notice anything wrong with this T-shirt.  Maybe that's why it was half off!
