As a missionary we are
required wear our missionary name tags at all times when we are around other
people. Because of this we have had a number of less-actives come up to
us and self-identify as members of the church. We have started calling
this "the miracle of the badge". We know when this happens that
less-active members are moved by the Spirit, even if only temporarily, to
return to the Church. We love these moments.
Additionally, I have
discovered that in wearing the name of Jesus Christ on my shirt or jacket, that
I am acutely aware of who I represent at all times and in all places. It
reminds me of the covenants that we renew when we take the Sacrament that we
"are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son". I have
found that with this I am slow to anger, and deal with situations in a much
more loving and kind way, consistent with representing the Savior. I wish
at times that as members of the Church that we had a name tag on at all times
indicating who we represent as members of the Church and especially as
priesthood holders.
Whether we have a name tag on
or not, we have a responsibility to our Savior to properly represent Him in all
times and in all places, as we have covenanted to do. I know that the
Lord blesses us with peace and comfort in stressful situations when we do
remember that we have taken upon us the name of Jesus Christ.
